I’m entering my 29th year as an educator. I have taught high school and middle school in subjects as varied as English, honors biology, human development, economics, civics, AP Art History, and algebra. I have been a media specialist for 25 years, 18 at the high school level and the most recent eight at the elementary level, at Newnan Crossing Elementary in Coweta County.

My degree program is the 6-year program in Media/ Technology, mostly because, in the 20 years since I achieved my Masters degree, I have acquired most of the skills that go into this program. My preference would be a program in Media with a concentration in curriculum design and supervision, because that what the media specialist’s job ought to be (especially with the new GPS curriculum upon us), but no such program exists.

After completion of my degree, I will continue to run my media center until my retirement some time in the next five to eight years.

I do lots in my free time, of which I have a huge abundance since retiring as the artistic director of the Newnan Community Theatre Company after 23 years in that volunteer position. Amazingly, I don’t do theatre. I work in my herb garden, I cook, I try to write music. Here’s a link to my website, where if you’re really bored, you can find my music: http://www.dalelyles.com

Here’s something I used to do, way back in college, and which I would do again if given even the smallest chance: the Period Dance Group. I was the president and chief researcher of this phenomenal performance group at UGA, and recently had the thrill of reuniting with a couple of the members. To try to track down everyone and commemorate the wonders of that group, I created this website: http://perioddance.org

And during the summer I am the assistant director of the Governor’s Honors Program, which you can explore at http://www.valdosta.edu/ghp/
