It was not until this evening, trying to clear off the sofa in my apartment here in Brown Hall on the campus of Valdosta State University, that I remembered that I actually have two more creative goals for the summer:
- compose a piece to submit to Marc Burroughs’ “Outside the Bachs” competition; I talked about this one a couple of days ago, along with copyright. Due October 31.
- compose a piece to submit to the “Welcome Christmas” Carol Competition, co-sponsored by the American Composers Forum and Philip Brunelle’s Minneapolis-based VocalEssence ensemble. This year, the orchestration is SATB with celeste. Due August 31.
I am now taking suggestions for texts for either or both.
60 days to go!
A suggestion for your Christmas Carol competition, being a mushy softy when it comes to Christmas, I have a wealth of Christmas poems and stories. One that I have always been particularly fond of is “A Christmas Carol Poem” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. If you don’t know it, and I’m sure you do, look it up online. I’m almost positive it’s public domain.
